Over the past several decades, attempts at describing organizational structure and resultant performance are numerous and diverse in organizational literature. This paper provides avenues to synthesize resources firmly grounded in the resource-based view of the firm with the dimensions of corporate culture, to deterministically illustrate how not only certain governance structures, but also proper and informed guidance by organizational managers may positively impact performance. The research model expresses the relationship between resource heterogeneity and immobility, value, rareness imitability, and substitutability; the relationship between organizational culture, value rareness, and imitability; and the impact of these relationships on sustained competitive advantage. Although it is beyond the scope of this study to arrive at the final and complete resource-based theory of the firm, it is intended to make a positive contribution toward that end.
