Some results about the effect of living in a modern society on the hearing capacity

This work tries to evaluate, in a small scale, the influence of living in a modern society with numerous noise sources (traffic, works, electrical appliances, etc.) and new habits of life (use of headphones, audiovisual apparatus, night leisure, etc.) over the hearing capacity. A survey was designed in order to know a register of the sonorous environments lived by the polled subject, who was also put to a hearing capacity proof. Students of first year university, teachers and technician personal of university, and inhabitants of a quiet village were surveyed and measured their hear capacity. In addition, different sonorous environments (offices, schools, streets, public transports, pubs, different machines or vehicles, etc.) were studied by measuring the dose of received noise. Results show beginning of hearing damage in very young people mainly due to the abuse of high intensity levels of sounds (music).
