摘要

The use of boundary element methods to accurately predict vehicle interior noise levels as well as sound radiated from components is gaining acceptance in the automotive industry. This paper explores the use of boundary element methods for the prediction of muffler shell noise and tail tube noise. The problem of predicting muffler radiated noise due to the acoustic pressure in the exhaust system is complicated by the fact that the acoustic media internal and external to the muffler are different. The solution of "multi-fluid" problems requires a special formulation of the boundary element method. Modeling and solution techniques are discussed and results presented for ah automotive expansion chamber muffler.
