MODAL CONTROL OF FLEXIBLE STRUCTURES USING MODAL RESIDUALIZATION TECHNIQUE

A large number of elastic modes may be needed to describe the behavior of a flexible structures, active control of all these modes would be impossible, it must be restricted to a few critical modes. In this paper, a new method of modal residua-lization is given. It is based on a closed-loop model and can reduce the order of a structure by using a minimization procedure to search for the parameters of the reduced model. This procedure minimizes the deviations of transfer matrix of the reduced model from the transfer matrix of the structure. The control law of the structure is synthesized by using optimal quadratic theory, then the outputs of the reduced model with practical control law approximate the outputs of the structural system with optimal control law.
