PREVALENCE AND ANTIMICROBIAL SUSCEPTIBILITY OF MICROORGANISMS ISOLATED FROM CLINICAL MASTITIS OF DAIRY HEIFERS IN ARGENTINA

Several studies have clearly shown that intramammary infections (IMI) in heifers occur frequently during the prepartum and peripartum periods (5). However, limited information is available in Argentina and these reports were associated with subclinical IMI (1,2). Few reports have been published on microorganisms associated with clinical mastitis in heifers (4, 5), but the prevalence in Argentina has not been determined. Although several studies have examined the antimicrobial susceptibility of mastitis pathogens from mature dairy cows in Argentina (3), limited information is available about the susceptibility of bacteria isolated from heifers (2, 6). The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence and antimicrobial susceptibility of microorganisms isolated from clinical mastitis of dairy heifers in Argentina.
