Comparative Genomics Between Drosophila and Human

Medical bioinformatics is information science to establish knowledge for the promotion of human health as well as for the cure of human diseases. Model animals are utilized for experimental medical science as the simulation systems. Drosophila melanogaster is a model animal, in which its genome and mutation phenotypes have been well characterized. During 1998^-2002, we have engaged in experimental science for cloning, expression analyses and functional analyses of 35 novel human genes, which are homologous to Drosophila genes implicated in segment polarity and planar cell polarity([2], and references therein). In 2003, huge amounts of data concerning genome sequences, expressed sequence tags (ESTs), and uncharacterized so-called "fall-length cDNAs" are available in public database. Therefore, we applied bioinformatics for the hunting of human genes homologous to Drosophila genes with interesting phenotypes.
