For the analysis of genetic variation in quality related genes, specific PCR primer was designed for the following genes, Glu-A3 and Glu-B3 for LMW-glutenin subunit and Pina and Pinb for endosperm hardness, and their genotypes were determined for wheat accessions mainly from Asian countries. These accessions proved to be rich in genetic variation, and the number of alleles detected was five for Glu-A3, three for Glu-B3, seven for Pina, and two for Pinh. The frequency of each allele was also differentamong the areas of origin, reflecting the genetic differentiation revealed by the analysis of adaptatively neutral genetic markers. It was therefore suggested that geographical difference in the frequency of each allele may partly reflect the genetic relationship among local wheat populations, or be subjected to artificial selection under diverse environmental conditions.
