(R)-(+)-ethyl-2-hydroxy-4-phenylbutyrate ((R)-(+)-EHPB) is an important building block for the synthesis of several commercially important A.C.E. inhibitors. Several, researches have been reported to obtain (R)-(+)-EHPB, however, the ee value of (R)-(+)-EHPB needs to be improved before practical application. In order to achieve higher ee value for (R)-(+)-EHPB and to obtain the fundamental understanding, different preparation methods were compared. An active and enantioselective catalyst with an optimal average Pt particle size was prepared. Moreover, the effect of reaction conditions on the catalytic performance was investigated in detail using a batch reactor.
