One of the major shortcomings of homogeneous catalysis for industrial application is the separation of catalyst from product. To deal with this problem, liquid/liquid biphasic catalysis has become probably the most elegant method. Especially the success of Ruhrchemie/Rhone-Poulenc process for hydroformylation of propene that encouraged people to pay much attention in this aspect. Recently, various kinds of liquid/liquid biphasic catalysis systems involving solvents system include fluorocarbons, special mixture of organic solvents, supercritical CO_2 and ionic liquids have been reported.
