Process Modeling for Control System Operation

摘要

This paper outlines recent developments in using process models for control system checkout and operator training. The installation at the Carter Holt Harvey Pulp and Paper Kinleith mill is highlighted, and examples from two other installations are also discussed. In all cases the process model takes the place of the field equipment and connects to the control system. A new feature is the use of OPC interfaces between the control system and the process models. The driving force for control system checkout is to reduce the time taken to start up a new plant or new installation. Experience from the projects presented in this paper indicates that the savings are real and substantial.
