Effectiveness of the Take Care - Use Antibiotics Responsibly program to influence antibiotic use behaviors and attitudes among pork producers

The purpose or this longitudinal study was to evaluate the efficacy of the National Pork Board's Take Care -^sUse Antibiotics Responsibly program by measuring its effects on short- and long-term changes in pork producer antibiotic use behaviors and attitudes. Materials and methods: A survey instrument was designed to assess antibiotic use attitudes and behaviors of pork producers. Ten veterinary practitioners each taught Take Care -^sUse Antibiotics Responsibly principles to several, selected pork producer clients. Each veterinarian also chose other clients to participate in the study, which served as control herds. These pork producers were surveyed concurrently, but were not exposed to the Take Care principles by the veterinary practitioners.
