From alpha-amino acids to enantiopure gamma-and omega-amino acids with proteinogenic side chains

Peptides constructed from beta-gamma gamma-amino acids can adopt helix,sheet or reverse turn conformations in solution or solid state as evidence by NMR,CD,X-ray and modeling studies [1].Here,we study the synthesis of gamma-amino acids and we present a general methodology for the synthesis of enantiopure omega-amino acids with proteinogenic side chains starting from the corresponding natural alpha-amino acids.
