摘要

The presence of factor V Leiden which causes an increased resistance to activated protein C (APC-R) is one of the most common thrombophilic disorders. The aim of this study was to define the prevalence of increased APC-R in a selected group of hemodialysis patients and the possible association with access thrombosis. 75 hemodialysis patients were tested for APC-R. Overall, nine patients (12%) had an increased resistance to activated protein C and had at least one episode of access thrombosis (100%). Univariate analysis showed a 2 times higher risk for access thrombosis in these patients. This study revealed a high prevalence of APC-R in a selected group of hemodialysis patients and a statistically significant association between access thrombosis and increased APC-R.
