The antioxidant activitivies of some new secondary amines derived from dehydroabietic acid in the autoxidation of linoleic acid micelles in aqueous dispersions at 37°C induced by an azo radical initiator were evaluated by determination of induction times The values obtained, for two of the amines, were 2 or 3 fold those of isopropyldiphenylamine (IPPD) used as a standard. The oxidative degradation of ethylene-propylene elastomers (EPI)M and EPR) in the presence of some of those compounds was also studied. The stabilization efficiency of the additives was assessed by oxygen uptake performed in air at 180°C and normal pressure for two different concentrations of additive (0.05 and 0.1 %). The induction time and oxidation rate values obtained showed that all the compounds tested are antioxidants in the EPR matrix and only two of them inhibit the oxidation of EPDM.
