RiceGenes 5.0: an online genomic resource for the rice community

RiceGenes (http://ars-genome.corneil.edu/rice) is a publicly accessible genome database developed and curated by the USDA-ARS. It serves as a resource for the international rice research community by providing a collection of 11 rice genetic maps froma variety of sources, including Cornell University, the Japanese Rice Genome Research Program (JRGP), the Korea Rice Genome Research Program (KRGP), and Chinese researchers. RiceGenes also documents comparisons with maps from other grasses (maize, oat,wheat, and soon sorghum and wild rice). We have begun adding connections between genetic markers and available rice BAG and PAC sequences identified by T1GR, In addition to information on molecular and morphological markers, RiceGenes contains QTLs, photographs of mutant phenotypes, and hot links to GenBank, Oryzabase, and other online resources. Molecular markers developed at Cornell University can be referenced and requested via the associated Web site at Cornell. The RiceGenes team is also involved in developing new tools for rice genomic research to aid in SSR identification (SSRIT, http://ars-genome.cornell.edu/rice/tools.html). RiceGenes is accessible on the Web at http://ars-genome.corneli.edu/ nee. The KRGP also provides RiceGenes in the form of a CD-ROM for Macintosh and Windows.
