The Formation of Ice Clouds from Supercooled Aqueous Aerosols

The formation of ice particles form liquid aqueous aerosols is of central importance for the physics and chemistry of high altitude clouds. In this paper experimental measurements and theoretical models of ice nucleation from concentrated aqueous solutions are reviewed. Both homogeneous as well as heterogeneous ice nucleation are discussed and remaining open questions are highlighted.
