User interface device for the immersive 6-screens display 'COSMOS'

摘要

The immersive 6-screens display "COSMOS" displays full-sized virtual world with virtual reality technology. The users can behave in COSMOS similarly as if they were in the real space. The goal of this study is to develop intuitive interaction method between users and virtual world displayed on COSMOS. This paper describes the way of matching the virtual world co-ordinate system with user's intuitive co-ordinate system displayed in COSMOS. This paper also introduces a experimental controller device "Tentoumushi", which helps in pointing a 3D vector in virtual world by inclining the user's hand and moving along the vector by revolving a knob. To compare the Tentoumushi to the past controllers of COSMOS, we can say, that Tentoumushi is much easier to handle.
