Higher performance for the next LAN cable categories is required to provide the capability to transmit voice, data and video signals at faster speeds. Evidence of this is the increase in the amount of information that can be transmitted through LAN from Mbits/sec. to Gbits/sec. and the rising customer demand for UTP Category 5 cable (or higher) in recent years.
