An economic analysis of feeding conjugated linoleic acid to finishing pigs

Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) has produced important responses in animals when included in the diet. In various species it improves feed efficiency and leanness, enhances the immune response, appears to uncouple the expected depression in protein accretion from immune stimulation, and protects against both cancer and atherosclerosis. It is found naturally in significant quantities in products of ruminant animals, both milk and meat, because it is produced by the ruminal microflora.
