The aim of this paper is to introduce the modelling of organisations within the UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) Centre for Defence Analysis' (CDA) Land Formation Model (LFM). The LFM has been developed to cater for a wide range of demands for different types of study using a single Operational Analysis (OA) Facility, including: support for the procurement process; the study of tactics and doctrine; and the investigation of force structures and different equipment compositions. The Organisation Model within the LFM Facility was required to provide modelling of decision-making behaviour, physical behaviour and communication and interaction between different organisations, and between elements that constitute those organisations. As a result of those requirements, the Organisation Model utilises and highlights a number of interesting technical areas in the modelling of decision making and physical behaviour within Synthetic Environments. Primarily the LFM Organisation Model incorporates and expands upon ideas and concepts acquired and developed during previous programmes such as European Union Collaboration In Defence (EUCLID), GeKnoFlexE, US Command Forces (CFOR), UK Synthetic Theatre Of War (UKSTOW98), Command Agent Research (CARE) and other models currently in use within CDA. The LFM Organisation Model also utilises the benefits provided by the Cooperative Agents BuiLding Environment (CABLE - developed under EUCLID) and the LFM Infrastructure which was implemented to satisfy some of the high-level requirements of the LFM Facility.
