The running discrete Hartley transform (RDHT) has been introduced along with its applications in adaptive digital filtering. The authors present the application of RDHT to adaptive antenna arrays. This algorithm is applied to a very simple adaptive array problem to show its effectiveness, an array of nine equidistant isotropic radiating elements. It is shown that the algorithm converges to the desired solution in less than ten iterations. Advances in VLSI technology allow hardware implementation of the transformation, so that the transform-domain LMS (least-mean-squares) algorithm will produce faster convergence of the adaptation process.
