摘要

Fuel cells are real alternatives to be applied in naval and aeronautical systems due to its high efficiency, low noise and environmental advantages, these applications could range from propulsion systems to auxiliary power units (APU). Important concerns are related with the fuel itself, as hydrogen requires high pressures for its storage and shows low availability, Alcohols, on the other hand, shows more convenient properties although the electrode kinetics are less efficient compared with hydrogen. Methanol is the widest studied although it is a toxic compound, while ethanol has revealed promising as it has the advantage of easy transportation, easy storage and refueling, and unlike methanol, is non-toxic.
