Gas diffusion electrode for high temperature gas cells based on electrolyte-impregnated membrane, comprises gas diffusion layer, and porous catalyst layer arranged on diffusion layer and having conductive substrate and catalytic material
The gas diffusion electrode (18a, 18b) for high temperature gas cells based on electrolyte-impregnated membrane, comprises a gas diffusion layer (22a, 22b) and a porous catalyst layer (20a, 20b) arranged on the gas diffusion layer and having an electrically conductive substrate and a catalytic material applied on the substrate. The gas diffusion layer and/or a micro-porous layer present between the gas diffusion layer and the catalyst layer contain a hydrophobic material (28), which has hydrophobicity corresponding to a contact angle with water of 110[deg] . The gas diffusion electrode (18a, 18b) for high temperature gas cells based on electrolyte-impregnated membrane, comprises a gas diffusion layer (22a, 22b) and a porous catalyst layer (20a, 20b) arranged on the gas diffusion layer and having an electrically conductive substrate and a catalytic material applied on the substrate. The gas diffusion layer and/or a micro-porous layer present between the gas diffusion layer and the catalyst layer contain a hydrophobic material (28), which has hydrophobicity corresponding to a contact angle with water of 110[deg] , a mass portion of 10-20 wt.% related to the total mass of the catalytic material and the substrate, and a concentration gradually or step-wisely decreasing toward the gas diffusion layer and is homogeneously distributed within the catalyst layer. An independent claim is included for a membrane electrode unit.
