Pulse dosing of SSPAC after coagulation pretreatment was superior in alleviating the buildup of TMP to continuous SSPAC dosing after coagulation. It prevented TMP rise almost completely because 1) SSPAC had high capacity to adsorb NOM, in particular biopolymer; 2) biopolymer was strained out by precoated SSPAC; 3) SSPAC was detached from the membrane during hydraulic back washing with the help of coagulation pretreatment.
