In this paper the coupled design of an unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) propulsion system is considered. Included in the design are the propeller, electric drive, and battery subsystems. Evolutionary-based algorithms are used to establish the trade-off between payload mass and UUV range and explore the influence that key design parameters have on the overall performance.
