Magnetic recording media fabricated on plastic substrate are attractive economical media for multipurpose data storage applications. The substrate temperature can not be increased over 150°Cduring film deposition because the substrates become soft. Therefore, growth mechanism of magnetic thin films deposited on plastic substrates is different from that on conventional glass and NiP-plated Al-alloy substrates. In the present study we investigated the influence of seedlayer on the surface morphology and the growth orientation of Co-Cr-Pt longitudinal thin films fabricated on amorphous polyolephin (APO) substrates.
