Examining the Foundational Properties of Dynamic Value Networks

In this position paper we use the umbrella term 'Dynamic Value Networks' (DVN) to refer to networks consisting of both businesses and individuals, who interact - possibly only for a short time - to create solutions to quickly changing needs, and then morph into something different based on new value-creation opportunities. While a DVN can be formally described as a multidimensional graph with separate dimensions for time and the observer in question, understanding their behavior requires a multidisciplinary approach. In this paper, we discuss the nature of DVNs and summarize organization theoretical and strategic management approaches to understand profit-seeking firm behavior in a DVN context.
