A meshfree method called meshfree finite cover method (MFCM) is developed to deal with discontinuous deformation problems by integrating the flexibilities of the manifold method (Shi 1991) in discontinuity treatments and the meshfree features of the moving least square approximation. Movements of media or structures having arbitrarily complicated physical geometries with discontinuity even including large rigid body translations are treated by nodal values independent of the physical geometries. Numerical examples demonstrate its good convergence capability, high numerical accuracy and flexibilities in treating the problems having complicated physical boundaries with discontinuity as well as the involved large rigid body movements of the cracked parts.
