Development of Distance Learning Tools

Changes towards a globalized, fast networking and information-oriented society have been accelerating its rate of development everyday. The education field is also an area that experiences rapid changes with aid of the development of internet technology. The World Wide Web provides new opportunities for distance education over the Internet. Several experiments about cyber education or distance learning have been reported. The Web, when combined with other network tools, can be used to create a virtual classroom to bring together a community of learners for interactive education. Requirements for standard tools for distance learning, such as mail, multiparticipant board, newsgroup and video conferencing tools have been investigated and implemented based on the object modelling technique using Java language. Implemented systems using these tools have proved to be practical for distance learning with allowed interactions either between instructors and students or between students.
