Third-party registrars' audits - for better or for worse?

This paper reviews the potential impact of third party,standards audits on an software orgnaizaiton's ability to repsond to changing requirements.THe proesenters focus on the responsibility of the auditee's management to ensure that the registrar's audit presents a balanced view of the auditee's position with respect to a standard.While an ineffiective audit and an undeservede certification may seem at first like a gift,they waste the time and money invested in the audit.An ineffective audit undermines carefully nurtured cultural attitudes about quality,stadards.procedrues,and auditsAt worst,an ineffective audit procedures,and audits.At worst,an ineffective audit can obscure porblems and divet a software organization from addressing real problesm that adversely affect customer satisfaction,the quality of product and services,the efficiency of porcesses,and the business viability of the orgnaization.
