This paper presents a comparative analysis of the effective permittivity of a porous dielectric with aligned cylindrical perforations. Two analytical models are used to calculate the permittivity of the material from the known dielectric constants and volume fractions of the substrates. The perforated substrate is analysed using parallel and perpendicular orientation of the electric field with respect to the principal axis of the cylinders. To verify the analytical results, the substrate is also investigated using a full wave simulator for the unit-cell of the structure. It is shown that the simulation results agree well with those obtained by Maxwell Gamett (MG) mixing rule.
