Simulation and Analysis of Highway Lane Restriction Strategy Based on Traffic Conflict Technology

In recent years, the traffic demand of two-way, eight-lane highways have been increasing rapidly, while the study of lane restriction strategies and traffic safety remains insufficient. This paper proposes nine strategies from three aspects: vehicle type, lane distribution rules of vehicle type, and traffic conditions. Firstly, the causes of highway traffic accidents are analyzed, combining with the existing standards, and regulations in China to present the motivations of the nine strategies. Secondly, five proportions of truck traffic (10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%) are used to simulate the traffic flow through VISSIM under above lane restriction strategies. The vehicle interaction status data is obtained from simulation results. Then, the traffic conflict rate calculation model is established to evaluate the safety of lane restriction strategies. Finally, the analysis of the traffic conflict rate of lane restriction strategies is completed and the corresponding conclusions are drawn through the case study.
