摘要

Ageing societies and the increase in chronic disabilities are irrevocable trends in the Europe which usually result in a loss of autonomy and an increase of isolation due to a loss of independent mobility. Smart electric powered wheelchair are effective tools to empower disabled people and improve their social inclusion. We will describe the transdisciplinary ADAPT project funded by a EU research grant of 8.7 million Euro. Our aim is to develop innovative assistive technologies based on the recent breakthroughs in robotics to care the patients and to enhance their independence and quality of life. This article presents the project methodology and its preliminary results.
