The limited range of electric vehicles is seen as the most important obstacle in terms of user acceptance and widely dissemination. To reduce occurring range anxiety, a reliable range prediction is crucial. This implies high demands on accuracy and low variation of predicted range during driving. While conventional range estimation methods are based on recent driving data, a simulation based approach is presented which is expected to reduce the variation in range prediction. The focus is set on the online data acquisition for velocity prediction and the implementation of a predictive method with ongoing correction of the predicted energy consumption and range. The results are compared to recorded driving cycles and range estimation data of the Peugeot Ion.
