Thin film multilayer thermites were subjected to shock compression to observe their exothermic behavior. To probe these thermites at shorter time scales Al/CuO, Zr/CuO, and Mg/CuO thin films were impacted by laser driven flyer plates to explore the shock behavior of nano-thermite. The thin film samples were impacted with flyer plates with variable speeds (.5 to 4 km/s), and threshold detonation energies were calculated. Investigation into interfacial diffusion was also explored using elements of the classic Kirkendall effect.
