Conclusions: Synthetic meshes activated proinflammatory cytokine (Ml) genes while biologic materail up-regulated genes related to anti-inflammation (M2) phenotype macrophage. These results demonstrated that subtype of inflammation was accurately represented by gene expression profiles and con-elated well to representative histological and immunostaining staining around the mesh.
