Rehabilitation of Historic Wells Street Bascule Bridge, Chicago, Illinois

Built in 1922, Wells bridge is a double-deck, double leaf, fixed trunnion structure that carries an elevated railway on the upper level, and vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic on its lower level. The bridge has numerous structural members with extensive corrosion and loss of section. A major rehabilitation of the bridge is planned in fall of 2012 with absolute minimal disruption to transit services, river navigations and the traveling public.
