Rehabilitation of Historic Wells Street Bascule Bridge, Chicago, Illinois

Built in 1922, Wells bridge is a double-deck, double leaf, fixed trunnion structure that carries an elevatedrailway on the upper level, and vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic on its lower level. The bridge hasnumerous structural members with extensive corrosion and loss of section. A major rehabilitation of thebridge is planned in fall of 2012 with absolute minimal disruption to transit services, river navigations andthe traveling public.
