Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) is atranscription factor, found in elevated levels inhypoxic cells, that activates downstream genesresponsible for glycolytic metabolism,resistance to apoptosis, and angiogenesis. PX-478 is a novel compound with excellentantitumor activity in xenografts that correlatespositively with HIF-1α inhibition.
