As bone tissue responds to injury or disease, it may be advantageous to biopsy the affected site as a component of the diagnostic protocol. Techniques for effective diagnostic measurements require minimally invasive tissue-sampling. Current devices often combine imaging duidance, such as fluoroscopic guidance [Debnam et al., 1975], computed tomography [Schweitzer et al., 1993], or magnetic resonance imaging, in order to harvest a sample of suitable size and at an exact anatiomic location. The resulting tissue sample may then be used to assess bone constituent quantity (mineral and nonmineral content).
