Deposit microstructure and surface morphology of three Zinc plating systems have been studied and compared by the conventional microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It has been elucidated that the possible difference in the surface composition and morphology accounts for the reason of lower corrosion resistance of chloride zinc. Also the different composition of zinc deposits from these electrolytes also result in the variations in thickness measurements by different techniques, and the effect of brightener on the composition of the zinc deposit is explained.
