The microtopography of diamond turned polycrystalline metals depends on cutting parameters and on the crystallographic orientation of individual grains (1-4). We are studying the influence of grain orientation on the microroughness of OFHC copper grains obtained in diamond cutting experiments. The aim of our work is to classify microtopographic features and to establish a relationship between grain orientation, cutting forces and surface topography.
