An adaptive control system in which the first-level system with the online identification block defined as a second-level object is considered. The estimated performance index error signal is used directly for feedback in the second-level system. A nonlinear discrete time Hammerstein model for the second-level object is proposed. Thus the second-level regulator can be designed by conventional control theory methods. To verify the effectiveness of this approach, design example and simulation results are given.
