Objective: To study the social adaptability of university students and the relationship with mental health and personality and carry out pertinence management. Methods: The conditions of the social adaptability, psychological health and character of 441 persons in grade 2010 were investigated by using Social Adaptability Self-report Questionnaire (SASQ), Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90) and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ). Results: Those students have significant different social adaptability in gender (P=0.002), different educational background (P=0.000) and different majors (P=0.015). The students' social adaptability of art discipline is lower than the other majors' students statistically (P<0.05). The total score and ten factors'score of SCL-90 correlated with social adaptability negatively(r=-0.217~-0.337). P N items correlated with social adaptability negatively(r=-0.176, -0.401). E L items correlated with social adaptability positively(r=0.370,0.21). Regression analysis shows, PHOB (β=-0.186) ,PAR (β=0.100) ,E (β=0.222) ,N (β=-0.237) , L (β=0.095). So the results are useful to prognosticate the social adaptability. Conclusions: The university students' social adaptability is in the middle level. We should consider the adaptability difference in the different groups, and take more consideration to the female students, junior college students and student's major in art. We need continuously optimized the personality character as a basic training.
