Nanocrystalline powders of Barium Sodium Niobate (BNN) with the composition Ba3-2x Na4+x Rx Nb10 O30 with x = 0 have been prepared by conventional ceramic technique. The powders belonged to tungsten bronze type structure with tetragonal symmetry and lattice constants a= 12.4531Angstrom units and c=3.9834Angstrom units XRD and SEM studies revealed that its particle size is in the nanometer range.Composites were prepared by mixing powders of BNN with polystyrene at different volume fractions of the material. Dielectric studies were conducted at a frequency range of 100kHz to 13MHz and a temperature variation from 28 degreeC to 120 degreeC. It has been found that dielectric characteristics of the composites depend upon both the filler and the polymer. Mechanical properties such as stress-strain behavior, Young's modulus, Tensile strength, strain at break etc. were calculated. Addition of filler enhances the mechanical properties of the polymer. Hydrophobic nature of the composites increases with filler addition. All the results are in good agreement with its uses in electronics industry
