This study proposes a novel wearable device, called HARS (Hybrid-based Aspiration and Respiration Sensing), made of a flexible material for respiratory measurement and home monitoring of asthma. This paper mainly mentions about the method of respiratory phase identification using respiratory sounds and chest movements. The main challenge is to implement chest movement acquisition with a small device, which has the advantage of flexibility. The characteristics of the acoustic signals and the movement signals are investigated. On the basis of the results, a method is developed in which the acoustic and movement signals are derived from breathing using sensors that have low sensitivity to positioning. The results of another experiment demonstrate the feasibility of HARS for phase identification during spontaneous breathing.
