There is a significant gap in the software development process between the research and deployment communities as each environment has different operational priorities.A recently completed research and development project called Bridging the Development Gap (BtDG),involved applying component software methodology to real-time digital signal processing (DSP) multicomputing.The project was accomplished with Mercury Computer Systems,Inc.and The MathWorks,and partially funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).This presentation will report some of the work related to BtDG that significantly improves developer productivity for parallel programming of signal processing applications today while laying the groundwork for dramatic advances in the future.A research-phase 'beta' test of these developments started in April 1997.Product availability,using the methodology and results discussed in this paper,has not been determined and is dependent on further research and development.
