The processes of decomposing phenol water solutions under the action of an atmosphericpressure dielectric barrier discharge in the presence or absence of catalysts in the plasma zonehave been studied. Three types of catalysts have been tested, NiO, CuO and TiO2. Resultsobtained have been compared with the phenol water solutions treatment by an electrochemicalmethod (DC current), ozonation and electrochemical action combined with ozonation. The actionof NiO provided higher decomposition rate and phenol decomposition energetic yield per 100 eVof inputted energy while TiO2 catalyst action resulted in a higher degree of phenol conversion intoCO2. In any case discharge treatment was more preferable from point of view destruction rates,energetic yields and final product composition as compared with other examined methods.
