The most important steps in the design procedure of a composite pressure vessel are the shapedetermination and the derivation of suitable winding patterns. Both can be expressed in termsof the required amount of wound circuits. This paper presents a methodology for matching thenumber of circuits dictated by strength calculations to these dictated by winding patterns. Themain key for this matching procedure can be found in terms of the main characteristic fibreproperties: cross sectional dimensions and tensile strength. The fibre trajectories here aregeodesic, and they are not subjected to any additional turning around at the poles of thetreated vessel. In this sense, the solution may be regarded as optimal since it guaranteesminimal fibre length, minimal fibre stacking, minimal number of required circuits, minimalfibre overlap and maximal occupation of the fibre bundle strength.
