Effects of a perfect electrically conducting (PEC) cylinder on the performance of a dual-polarized wide band antenna in K/Ka-band are presented. The impact was analyzed by comparing antennas in an infinite ground plane, flush mounted with the cylinder's surface and slightly recessed within the cylinder. Results show that recessing the antenna in a cylinder causes boresight gain ripples of ±1 dB with side lobe levels in the E-plane increased up to -10 dB for both polarizations. On the other hand, by flush-mounting antenna with a cylinder, the ripples are reduced and patterns are much less affected for the radial polarization.
